• our story

A friendly club since the 1950s

The club was formed in the 1950s on land donated by Lady Cranfield, to provide a facility for local workers. We are known as a “friendly club”; we are not affiliated to the English Bowls Association or England Bowls Federation and therefore do not compete in local leagues. However, we still enjoy healthy competition and run an active league programme within the club itself.

Though a low-impact form of exercise, bowls offers physical, mental and social benefits — why not give it a try?

Our pavilion

Our much-needed new pavilion was opened in 2003 by John Rednall and extended in 2013. It has a large communal area for social events, big enough to accommodate two short mat rinks in the winter months, a well-equipped kitchen and toilet facilities. The open design of the pavilion offers excellent views of the green, enabling spectators to watch the action in comfort.

What I need to wear? Unlike many clubs, we have no strict dress code, apart from flat-soled shoes suitable for bowling, to protect the green and the indoor mats. We have club shirts which we encourage members to wear when representing the club, but for all other events, there is no strict dress code.

• how is the club run?

Run entirely by volunteers

We have an active Committee which meets regularly; our AGM is held in November. We are very grateful to our Committee members, to our greenkeepers and to all of our helpers for the time they give and for everything they do to support the club for the benefit of others.
